Vinit & Neema's Wedding in Goa, India

When a blind date turns into a lifelong relationship, you know that the saying ‘love is blind’ holds true! Come witness Vinit & Neema’s journey!

How we met:

We both stay and work in the city of London, and while I’m in Insurance, Vinit’s into Finance. We met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend, and sort of knew that it was for life from the very beginning. The proposal took place in Sorrento, Italy – a part of the world I always wanted to visit. It was perfect, apart from the minor glitch of Vinit dropping the ring before sliding it on my finger, and searching for it frantically in the dark balcony (awkwardd)! We spent 5 years together before we tied the knot.

Wedding Planning:

We wanted a wedding which was fun, enjoyable, different and something which captures the essence of India (Goa), but is also an event which is quite Western reflecting our London roots. F5 Weddings (our wedding planners) went out of their way to make our vision come true – they listened and delivered exactly as we wanted. And even when we were lost for ideas or didn’t know what needed to be done, their input and suggestions in general were perfect and rescued us!

The food tasting was fun and so was choosing the themes and decorations with my fiancé.

Feelings on the Big Day:

Neema – I enjoyed coming out at the Reception party as ‘husband and wife’ and toasting all of our guests.

Vinit – Playing all the wedding games with my (now) beautiful wife, and winning all of them (i.e. the Jai Mala, the khoda kodi, the nose touching) was a lot of fun! The first dance was also very nice, which we performed immediately after we raised the toast.

Wedding Shopping:

I shopped from Gujarat and London, while he did his wedding shopping from Mumbai and London.

Schedule of events and outfits worn on each function:

Our wedding was three days long. We had the Mehndi party on the first day (during the day): it was a traditional affair with lots of flowers and very colorful. In the evening, the Sangeet took place, which was a Bollywood themed party with lots of dance performances, garba, the DJ dancing and dhaba style food being served. We wanted to bring some Bollywood to the party as we were in India at the end of it.

The second day we had the Vidhis in the morning and then the wedding took place in a traditional Hindu/ Gujarati style with a beautiful mandap and traditional decorations. Post wedding, the party continued at the hotel at LPK (Love Passion Karma), which is by the river Nerul – again organised and coordinated by F5.

The last day we held our Western themed Reception party. The evening was a formal black tie event, with a band and a DJ, who played late into the evening. The cuisine served was more of a western type.

My Mehendi, Sangeet and Reception outfits were all from RIA Boutique in Vadodara, Gujarat. My Pheras outfit was purchased from RCKC in London. My fiancé got his Pheras & Sangeet outfits from Telon in Mumbai, while his tuxedo for the Reception was from Ted Baker, London.

Wedding Venues:

The factors we were looking at while deciding our wedding venue were location, service, the cuisines offered and the living spaces for guests. We wanted our guests to have a great time over and above everything else. We decided on Goa, as the city is beautiful – a perfect holiday destination with a great vibe and atmosphere. We chose Marriott Resort and Spa because it’s a great hotel, the staff and service is excellent and the location is good. Since the rooms were also very important for us, this option seemed apt as Marriott’s rooms are well sized and relatively recently refurbished.

Performers and Performances:

The Reception was all about speeches and toasts by our friends and family. We danced to the song ‘Can’t help falling in love’ sung live by the band DnT from Goa itself. After our first dance, more couples joined in & moved to some slow, romantic songs, after which DnT switched up the tempo bringing everyone to the dance floor.

Few words on the photographer, videographer, hair/make-up artist, bartenders and DJ:

Wedding Planner – F5 Weddings – Wonderful team who made our dream wedding a reality. They sent us lots of options, explained to us what would work and what wouldn’t and drew upon their experience and expertise to make us feel comfortable and happy throughout. They made us feel that our wedding was as important to them as to us – which we were thoroughly impressed by. The effort, care and support that they showed us and our families through the whole process was commendable and that definitely shone through in the final decoration and in the fact that everyone had so much fun at our wedding!

We cannot commend the head chef at the Marriott enough – the food was exceptional and catered to everyone’s taste buds.

DJs – DJ Suleyman – excellent DJ, who played a good mix of music for the mixed crowd of old/ young Asian/ Western people.

Entertainers – A26 band was excellent and involved everyone and made sure they got the party started.
