Time changes, but celebrity weddings are forever. The celebrity wedding ‘industry’ and the media never stop demanding more material so it’s no wonder there’s so much hype around celebrity weddings all the time!
Let’s keep in mind that not all celebrity weddings are created equal, and we have to draw the line somewhere and separate the good from the not so good. Better yet, let’s not settle for ‘good’. Let’s aim for ‘awesome’ and look at the most important celebrity weddings of all time. Or at least, our time.
- Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
If it weren’t for the fact that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are in the middle of a bitter divorce and an even nastier custody battle, and the fact that their wedding was low-key, they would surely be at the top of our list for having redefined what it means to live in a celebrity-crazed culture. Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt exchanged vows at their estate in France, in 2014, and their wedding was reportedly attended only by their six children and 22 other guests. Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8, took an active part in dressing mom up for the occasion, having drawn on her gown and decorated the veil. They also wrote the vows but it’s just too sad that their parents couldn’t keep those promises.
- George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin
Year 2014 was obviously huge for celebrity weddings because our #2 couple also got married that year, and just like Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt, they tied the knot in Europe. George and Amal recited their vows in Venice, Italy in front of a star-studded group of family and friends. The bride wore a stunning Oscar de la Renta gown, and the pair opted for the Aman Canal Grande luxury resort in Venice for the reception. The guest list included some Hollywood heavy hitters, such as Matt Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso, Cindy Crawford and her husband Rande Gerber, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Richard Kind, and Ellen Barkin, but without a doubt all eyes were on Mr. and Mrs Clooney. The fact that their union is stronger than ever and that they have a baby on the way makes them particularly worthy of being on a short, but sweet, list like this.
- Kate Middleton and Prince William
The couple that is not only worthy of a list like this, but is actually at its very top, are Kate Middleton and Prince William. Their nuptials took place on April 29, 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London, United Kingdom. Their wedding was a public holiday in the UK that saw over 5,000 street parties throughout the country, wherein one million people lined the route between Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace. No celebrity wedding ever attracted that much attention, except maybe the wedding of William’s parents; it was attended by royals from around the world, broadcasted live on TV and publicized to no end. As grandiose as their wedding was, it wasn’t all for show because Kate and Will are the epitome of true love and a perfect example of how you can have a happy home and a lovely family despite the eyes of the entire world constantly watching you.
