Sumit & Bhawana's Wedding in Jaipur, India
Patience and destiny brought them together, but it was cupid that struck Sumit and Bhawana, who tied the knot in a pompous affair in the Pink City, Jaipur, India.
How we met:
We both met in Dubai. While he was based here, I came from Jaipur for a vacation to my bua’s place. As luck would have it, we both met for the first time at a clubbing night. We got introduced by my cousin, who was Sumit’s friend as well, but nothing great happened as such. I went back to Jaipur after my vacation and, after a few months, we randomly added each other on Facebook. We stayed in touch after that and became good friends. After spending so much time getting to know other, we realized that we get along pretty well and like each other as a person. Hence, discussions about tying the knot began and we soon involved our elders and cousins to take it further. Over a couple of months of discussions and gathering, the elders agreed.
Wedding preparations were stressful, as the wedding was taking place in Jaipur. But the team of Sumit, Litesh Chandnani, Nitin Khanchandani, myself and the elders took care of the entire planning process.
Overall, it was hectic, but still very exciting. A three-day affair from holy functions, followed by a daaru (alcohol) party, to a Mehndi function followed by another crazy daaru Pool Party made up for some fun memories and a lot to drink! The Sangeet function involved a couple of crazy performances including the one performed by my 1.5 year old niece, and obviously alcohol ruled the night, even though our friends refused to drink thanks to the hangover from the Pool Party. The Pheras function ended with a cards sessions with some booze on the side, and the Reception continued the tradition of daaru sessions in the room.
Feelings on the Big Day:
While I was nervous for my Big Day, my sweet husband was losing 15 kgs in 15 days due to the wedding stress! It was one stressful event, as we had to ensure all our relatives and friends were having fun and were well taken care of. There was also an added stress of ensuring that nothing is missed out on and everything goes as per the plan.
As I’m a fashion designer, all my dresses for the functions were designed by me. The trousseau shopping was done from Dubai (a bit) and Jaipur mostly, as Jaipur is the heart of designer wear. My bhabi (sister-in-law), Krisha Chandnani, helped me for all the preparations, as she is a fashion lover herself.
Schedule of Events and Outfits worn on each function:
17th July – Mata ki Chowki (theme Indian) – I wore a heavy, bright Pink, gota pati hi-lo Anarkali and Sumit wore a classic Kurta and Patiala, which, coincidentally, turned out to be color coordinated with me.
18th July Afternoon – Mehndi followed by Pool Party (Hawaiian theme) – I wore a Green Floral Dress.
18th July Evening – Ring ceremony followed by Sangeet party (Elegant Bollywood theme) – I wore a Velvet jacket style, Deep Blue, front open Top with Skirt and Sumit wore Indo-western, which was color coordinated by coincidence yet again.
19th July Afternoon – Wedding (Desi Indian theme) – I wore a heavy Deep Red Saree with Kundan work and Sumit opted for a different styled Beige and Red Sherwani with Dhoti.
19th July Evening – Reception (Chic and Classy Indo-Wwestern theme) – I chose a Indo-Western Baby Pink long Top with Lehenga and Sumit wore a 3-piece Suit with a hint of Pink.
We needed a 5-star property in Jaipur, so we ended up choosing Radisson Blu hotel, as it was conveniently located from the airport and the city. It’s a good property and a boutique hotel that could accommodate everyone and hence, was convenient.
For the Reception, we were looking for a venue near the hotel with a closed area as well as an open lawn which we could decorate beautifully, as we were expecting a lot of guests. Hence, we decided on this beautiful venue called The Entertainment Paradise.
Performers and Performances:
For us, DJ was the most important part, so we hired one of the best DJs from Dubai – DJ Shadow. Both our families performed in a family skit, with a special surprise performance from the groom, Sumit. The skit was scripted by me (the bride) and choreographed by Vinis.
Few words on the photographer, videographer, hair/make-up artist, bartender and DJ:
All of them did a great job, while working as a team during our wedding. It wouldn’t have been perfect if it wasn’t for them, as they made it a wedding to remember!
Advice for to-be-weds:
I can only advice one thing: Don’t take stress, enjoy your wedding as this time will never come back again. After marriage, patience is an important part of life as you need to settle into a new family and handle it with care. Keep the trust intact in your relationship and respect each other. Point to be noted: ‘Sorry’ is an important word for a successful marriage. Treat each other as friends first and husband and wife later, as it makes the ride more enjoyable, filled with lots of fun and laughter.
