Ribhu & Nirali's Wedding in Udaipur, India

Ribhu and Nirali's long-distance relationship turned into a gorgeous themed wedding in Udaipur, what with a Summer Sundown, Mewar Monsoon Mehendi, Winter Wonderland Sangeet, Spring Pheras and a Seasons of Love Dinner!

How we met:

Ribhu and I met in London through a common friend of ours during our Masters. He is from Jaipur and I am from Baroda, so it was a long distance relationship for 5 years. We started dating on 27th January, 2011.

Wedding Planning & Decor:

The wedding planning process was a tedious task! It’s all the more stressful for a girl because it includes so many things like trousseau shopping, clothes for all the main events, looking for the right make-up artist, etc.

Ribhu and I were in a long distance relationship for 5 years so we kept a theme ‘Seasons of Love’ and all our events were like – Summer Sundown, Spring Pheras, Mewar Monsoon Mehendi, Winter Wonderland Sangeet and Seasons of Love Dinner. Our logo for the wedding was a stamp which reflects long distance with our caricature in it.

For the Summer Sundown, we used all summery elements like sunflowers and fruits for decor, while the Spring Pheras was all about floral decor. Monsoon Mewar Mehendi incorporated rainy elements: we did the entire decor with gota patti, like gota patti umbrella, gota patti rain drops; we also had a flower shower at the event. Winter Wonderland Sangeet included winter elements like the snow effect, our entry was in a snow globe as well and we had those huge white trees with crystal balls hanging from them; the main highlight of the Sangeet was the ice bar which was centered around the theme of London (where we met).

Feelings on the Big Day:

On the wedding day, I had mixed emotions; happy because I was marrying the love of my life, sad because I missed my dad the most and, of course, the thought of living away from my family was daunting. It was also mixed because I had to shift to an entire new city, new family, new culture, new friends. But the best part is, I am blessed with the best in-laws who have made me feel so comfortable post the wedding and helped me settle down.

Wedding Shopping:

Wedding shopping was mainly from Delhi and Bombay. It was really stressful but fun at the same time, because you have to make so many choices at once.

Schedule of events and outfits worn on each function:

‘Monsoon Mewar’ Mehendi : Gota Patti Jacket and Lehenga by Anita Dongre
‘Winter Wonderland’ Sangeet : Gown by IRRAU
‘Spring’ Pheras (Wedding) : Lehenga by Sabyasachi
‘Seasons of Love’ Reception – Gown lehenga by ELAN

Wedding Venues:

We ended up choosing Udaipur as our wedding venue, as it was a center point for both the families and plus we wanted a destination wedding.

Performers and Performances:

We hired Meet Brothers to perform at the Sangeet and they absolutely killed it! They were brilliant! We also had an after-wedding dinner, where we called Amar Khandha with his orchestra band and they were amazing too!!

Few words on the photographer, videographer, hair/make-up artist and DJ:

Photographer/ Videographer: I was so happy to pick The Wedding Story and Pooja Joseph Photography as my photographers. They have captured each and every moment which we will cherish forever. Both the teams of photographers made our wedding a memorable one.

Hair and Make up: Mallika Bhatt was brilliant at her job; she knew exactly what I wanted and ensured my make-up lasted all day. I would be more than happy to recommend her to all the brides-to-be.

Advice for to-be-weds:

Weddings are not about spending the least or most amount of money, they are about spending money wisely on those elements that are most important to you and your partner.
