Puneet & Nisha's Engagement in Male, Maldives
We met at a common friend’s birthday dinner at Abd El Wahab Restaurant in Souk Al Bahar. I got off work late that evening, so I showed up a bit late at the birthday dinner. After meeting everyone and getting introduced to a few, I sat at the end of the table. Next thing I know, Puneet gets up to leave his original seat and moves 3 seats down to sit across me and starts a conversation.. and this was the first time I had seen/met him! Hence, initially, I thought he was quite strange.
In the midst of the wedding planning process, we decided to host an engagement ceremony in Maldives. This was a 3 day trip and an additional event, but I would like to convey a big Thank You to my brother who made it possible for me. He took it all upon himself – from accommodation to planning the event, the cake, getting the right photographer and videographer, etc.
The plan (my dream) was to hold a sunset ceremony to make the moment more special! But it was way better than I’d imagined it to be. It was like a dream come true and was simply perfect!
However, we faced many challenges while planning this event:
- We were sitting in Dubai and none of us had been to Maldives before – so it was a completely new place for us
- It took us about 4 months to put it all together for 17 people plus 3 kids
- Getting any vendor into the resort was another task in itself, as they all required a speedboat transfer to the resort from Male city
- The weather in Maldives was majorly unpredictable
Hence, we started off by researching the top resorts and contacted them. I was keen on having the sunset in the background, so we had to find a venue with a beach. We were then in constant touch with the butler, and jumped into the event planning and created an itinerary for the 3 days. We discussed the menu and sequence of the event and timelines for all 3 days in advance – cake decoration, decor of the venue, food and beverage at the event, photo shoot timings, make-up artist, etc. We coordinated the timings of the MUA and photographer and their speedboat transfers on the first day itself. We included water sports in our itinerary for our loved ones to enjoy.
My gown was a customized piece and was made keeping the timings of the event in mind. I didn’t intend to, but several people commented that I looked like a mermaid – guess that was a good thing 😉 Puneet’s suit was also customized and was put together in just 2 days. Men are lucky, aren’t they!?!!
Day 1 – All of us took separate flights and arrived at the resort. We had lunch by the poolside, which was followed by group cocktails at Equator Bar and dinner at 24 Degrees.
Day 2 – After breakfast, everyone spent some time in their private villa pools. The engagement was on day 2, which was then followed by a lavish dinner at the Deep End Restaurant, where we ended up partying eventually.
Day 3 – This day was just for everyone to indulge in water sports – snorkeling, sea bob, jet ski, diving, kayaking, catamaran – after which we had our final dinner at 24 Degrees again.
None of us wanted to leave the resort! It was actually a much needed break amongst all the wedding madness and proved to be the perfect getaway with our loved ones.
