Rohit & Priyanka's Wedding in Dubai, UAE
Rohit was studying in USA and Priyanka was living in Dubai. Their long distance relationship turned into a life long commitment on the 17th of April, 2015.
How we met:
Rohit and I met 7 years back in Mumbai through a common friend and it was a casual lunch after which we both went back to our respective countries, US and Dubai. He then added me on Facebook and we spent the whole year after that Facebooking, skyping, messaging each other and getting to know each other from miles away. Once Rohit graduated, he decided to move back to Dubai and started working towards a future together. It is just amazing how we together built such a strong relationship and together we made our dream come true on the 17th of April 2015.
Together with our families we decided that Dubai would be the best place to get married as this is home for both of us. We both wanted to create themes that match our personality. We both wanted all 3 functions to be different and came up with 3 concepts – For Sangeet we went with Carnival of Love. We had people of stilts, Brazilian dancers , face painting and so much more happening to give a Carnival feeling. Our Wedding day was truly special. We kept it simple and decided to go with Pastel colors and fresh flowers. After the wedding Nitin Mukesh took us all through a musical journey across the golden era. Since I am such a fairy tale princess kind of girl, I came up with the concept of the Reception night and we called it the “Happily Ever After” Party. All white décor and a chariot for me to enter with my Prince was put together.
Overall, I absolutely loved planning the wedding and it was a great experience!
Feelings on the Big Day:
Every girl dreams of this day to be perfect and truly special. I am so blessed to actually experience this dream which was even better than what I had always imagined. My groom made me feel like I was the prettiest woman on earth and I can never forget his expression when he saw me the first time as his bride.
I was nervous definitely but more than nervous I was just excited and happy. We both have struggled a lot to be together and this may sound cliche but our love for each other is one in a million and we are very lucky to have each other. Rohit said that he enjoyed the Baraat dancing in his White Ferrari but he was as impatient to see me as I was. Once we met on the wedding day right before entering the hall then all our fears and nervousness just ended.
Rohit and I had a weeks’ time to come to Mumbai for all our shopping. It’s funny how we din’t care much about designer names or jewellery and our aim was never to overdo outfits or focus on such small matters. We wanted to look like a young couple and be comfortable in what we wore. Jai Makhija who is my designer for all my outfits is more like family to me and I have blind faith in what he makes. I met with him a few times and showed him some pictures of outfits and colors I liked but that was about it. I had not seen my clothes or didn’t even know what he would make until a week before the wedding. Jewellery shopping was fun for me and I picked all my jewellery from Notandas. My mom was extremely supportive and she came to all the stores with me. In-fact, she also picked out my wedding set on her own after I had left. I totally loved it!
On the sangeet I wore a navy blue mirror worked lehnga which was one of my favorite outfits. It really made me shine and sparkle!
Wedding day was a more traditional look and Jai made me a Red and Gold Lehnga with an orange blouse. This by far was the most comfortable outfit and I wish I could be in it forever!
For the Reception I wanted to wear a pastel colored gown which had a very simple but elegant look.
Well all that was done by my brother Pankaj. He went to all these hotels with my parents and picked the most amazing ballrooms in Dubai. All 3 hotels had completely different looks and the arrangements were perfect.
Sangeet – Atlantis, The Palm
Wedding – Raffles Dubai
Reception – The Address Dubai Marina
Performers and Performances:
Dancing runs in my family’s blood. My sisters along with all our friends put together an amazing skit on the sangeet. It was such a wonderful performance and the best part for me was when along with both our parents, all our chachas and chachis danced on London Thumakda!
Few words on the photographer/videographer, hair/make-up artist, and DJ:
The whole team of Pooja Studio took care of the photography and videography of the wedding and as you can see the pictures they did a splendid job!
Shalini Singh a Delhi based makeup artist did my makeup and hair for all 3 days and the only thing I had told her was to make sure I look like myself and my age. I wanted to look young and fresh and I couldn’t have asked for a better makeup artist than her.
On the other hand we had an after party for all the youngsters where we had DJ Beatz play some amazing music. The other DJ’s who played at the wedding were DJ Tahir and DJ Zubair who absolutely kept the party going until 5am.
Advice for to-be-weds:
Marriage is such a beautiful union of two people becoming one. Never lose focus on that and don’t get too worked about having a perfect wedding. The only thing that matters is you and your partner, everything else will fall into place.
