Nimit & Roshni's Wedding in Udaipur, India
Between sharing different relationship tags, one thing remained constant for Nimit and Roshni - their love and respect for each other!
How we met:
We met in high school through a common friend and soon became best friends. He started liking me and pursued me for a year. After a year, I finally said ‘yes’ and we have been together and madly in love since 2009. We went to the same university in Dubai. From being a best friend, to a boyfriend, to my fiance and now my husband, I love and cherish every relationship tag I share with him.
We got engaged in January 2015 and since then I’ve been planning my dream wedding – my phone was full of pictures and ideas from Tumblr and Instagram. From the decor, to the outfits and jewelry, I had begun my research on almost everything. It was quite stressful since it was the first wedding in my family and the first destination wedding in his family. But to our ease, our families were super supportive and gave us the complete freedom to plan our dream wedding the way we wanted it.
Feelings on the Big Day:
I still remember waking up very very early that morning. After three days of consecutive events and partying, I was quite exhausted and sleepy. I remember taking a power nap while getting my hair and makeup done. But on the other hand, I was excited and had butterflies in my stomach. It was my wedding day – it had to be perfect! I called my bridesmaids in my room while I was getting ready to chill with them and rehearse my entry.
Personally, I love Delhi when it comes to shopping for outfits. Before making my trip to India for shopping, I had made a list of the designers I wanted to visit. I shopped from designers such as Shantanu & Nikhil and Gaurav Gupta from their respective stores in DLF Emporio Mall. That mall was a life saver – I found all the amazing designers under one roof! I bought most of my trousseau outfits from there too. Other designers that I shopped for my trousseau were Manish Malhotra, Papa Don’t Preach, Anushree Reddy, Ridhi Mehra, Archana Kochhar, Arpita Mehta, etc. from Delhi as well as Mumbai.
Schedule of Events and Outfits worn on each function:
14th January – Bridal Mehendi
After watching the ‘Kabira’ song from Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, I wanted a function just like that at my wedding. So I kept a ‘pop art’ themed Mehndi function in which I was sitting on a jhoola (swing) getting my mehndi done and felt like an ultimate princess.
Outfit by Shobika Bhandari (SB Creations, Delhi) – I wore a Yellow and Peach Lucknowi Lehenga with a Blouse with Gota work done on it.
Hair & Make up by Jaivant
15th January Afternoon – Welcome Lunch
I wore a Blue Crop Top & Skirt by Neha Agarwal
Hair & make up by Jaivant
15th January Night – Bollwyood Red Carpet themed Ring Ceremony and Sangeet.
I designed my own jewelry. The decor was based on a Red Carpet theme and included some elements of Bollywood.
I wore a Bottle Green and Royal Blue Mirror and Zardozi work Lehenga and my husband wore a Royal Blue Sherwani designed by Shantanu & Nikhil
Hair & Make up by Ojas Rajani
16th January Afternoon – Desi Mela (Wonderland) themed Mehendi
The Colorful decor managed to provide a rural feel. We had gola wala, camel rides, chaat all the way from Delhi, sugarcane juice, archery and balloon shooting, kite flying since it was around the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
I wore a Lime Green sequin Peplum paired with a Sharara designed by Shobika Bhandari. My entry was on a palki and my traditional temple jewelry was from Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jewellers in Jaipur.
Hair & Make up by Ojas Rajani
16th January Evening – Jashn-e-Bahaaran
Sufi theme night – Royal Blue and Gold decor to set the Sufi mood.
I wore a Gold Sari Gown designed by Gaurav Gupta. For jewelry, I wanted a simpler look as my outfit was a fusion of Indian and Western, so I opted for a solitaire necklace paired with chunky diamond earrings.
Hair & Make up by Ojas Rajani. Ojas gave me dark smokey eyes and red lips to add some color to my neutral colored outfit.
17th Janurary – Pheras
The mandap was an exquisite gold one, with huge traditional pillars giving it a completely royal look, and the pheras took place in an amphitheatre. My entry was in the white wedding style, with my dad handing me over to my to-be husband – one of the most emotional moments for me which is etched in my memory forever.
I chose a maroon velvet lehenga with a red veil over my head. Ojas did a fabulous job with my bridal look and gave me a complete Maharani look.
My jewelry was an exquisite polki and emerald set from Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas Jeweller, for which I made trips to Jaipur after a lot of research. Since I wanted to wear a traditional and elegant set, I chose the one with chaand baalis as I am crazy about those earrings.
Reception – The stage was a beautiful white dome that looked like a palace. The theme was ‘Happily Ever After’ and we entered in a carriage. It felt like a scene from one of the fairy tales we had read about when we were kids! Though I was a bit upset that all the madness and excitement is soon going to be over, I could not wait to begin my ‘happily ever after’ with the love of my life.
I wore a Powder Pink Gown designed by Shantanu & Nikhil and my jewelry was a diamond choker and earrings from Mahesh Notandas, Mumbai.
Since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to get married in a royal way in Udaipur and my dad ensured that my dreams come true. There was no other venue I wanted to see after visiting The Ananta, because it was a new property and fulfilled our criteria. We booked the entire resort for three days and it was perfect – just like a dream. The weather was brilliant in January and since I always wanted a winter wedding around the mountains, The Ananta was the perfect choice. Their catering was out of the world, and all our guests complimented the food and the menu – my friends couldn’t stop talking about the Keema Pav and the Chaat.
Performers and Performances:
At the Sangeet, we had two different performances from the bride and groom’s family. Since we both are quite filmy, and the night was bollywood red carpet theme, the skits were also very very filmy! It was a lot of fun to see our families and friends come together and put in so much hard work and perform so beautifully for us. We also had a percussionist, Tarang Singhal, perform for us that night.
On the Sufi night, we had the privilege of having the Bollywood singer Javed Ali perform for us. Since both me and my husband are such big fans of his, we decided we wanted to see him perform on our special day. We also named that night ‘Jashn-e-Baharaan’ in his honor. He sang all his amazing songs like ‘Jashn-e-Baharaan’, ‘Tum Mile’, ‘Maula Maula’, ‘Kun Faya Kun’ and the audience was completely smitten by his voice.
Few words on the photographer, videographer, hair/make-up artist, bartender and DJ:
Pooja Studio is amazing at what they do – they’re talented, versatile and very reasonable.
Ojas Rajani did a fab job with mine, my mother’s and my sister’s hair and make up. She gave us a different look for every function and she was very sweet and down to earth, inspite of being a celebrity make-up artist.
Flaming Trio are the best bartenders in Dubai. For us, there was no second option other than them and we knew we wanted them on board for my wedding.
DJ Nitesh was spectacular!
If you’re looking for a DJ, that comes with a percussionist and violinist, then DJ Amann Nagpal and his troupe are an amazing choice. Their entire troupe is a guaranteed entertainment package and your guests will love the variety!
Advice for to-be-weds:
I want to tell all the OCD brides-to-be to take a little less stress and spend a little more time with your family, especially your parents. I feel I didn’t do that enough because I was going crazy planning my wedding, the OCD Virgo that I am. Enjoy the wedding days because you will never have so much love and attention ever again in your lives!
