Nikhil & Vaishali's Wedding in Udaipur, India
In dreams and in love, there are no impossibilities - this is what Nikhil and Vaishali's dream wedding at Jag Mandir Palace, Udaipur, relayed to us!
Wedding Planning and Decor:
Our wedding planning team F5 weddings were briefed on the decor and the comfort of our guests. They helped us from pin to plane and did a fantastic job. Each and every member of the team added their personal attention to everything before and during the wedding functions. Despite plenty of changes, the team were really patient with us and helped us through all of our doubts.
My Mehendi & Reception outfits were from Sabyasachi, while my Sangeet outfit was by Be the Circus. Nikhil’s brunch outfit was from Shantanu & Nikhil.
Schedule of events:
The wedding was for three days, from 8 – 10 November 2016.
On the 8th afternoon, our Mehndi function (informal) was held which was followed by a cocktail party for the bride’s and groom’s friends.
On 9th, we had a traditional Marwari Mehndi function – Myra – with lunch. The theme of the event was Rajasthani – Padaro Mare Desh. The theme was traditional and the decor was primarily based on marigold flowers, which gave a very Indian look to the place. The dress code was pink and yellow. Ghoomar dancers, traditional folk singers, mehndi artists, lac bangle makers, nail artists and a parrot reader kept the guests entertained. We entered with a band of dhol walas on an open cycle. The ladies indulged in some Garba dances on the tunes of the folk singers. A traditional Marwari fashion Sajjan Goth lunch with silverware and a huge variety of traditional food was lined up as well.
In the evening, a Sangeet ceremony was held which was titled ‘Jashn-e-Ishq’ at the romantic Zenana Mahal. Guests followed the dress code of Indian fusion at this gala. A royal welcome was extended to all our guests – with rose petal showers, horses with men, Rajasthani folk dancers and the Navy band. We made a celestial entry with white fairies surrounding us. The evening witnessed a few family performances and ended with the DJ playing till the wee hours of the morning.
On the 10th, we threw a Firangi luncheon. The decor was very English with a lot of floral elements added to it. Sunshine and pastel colors adorned the venue, with a big chasma photo booth cut out used as a background prop. This brunch party was actually our English engagement party, where I (the bride) was accompanied by my bridesmaids. Ring toss, Jenga, caricature and other activities kept the guests enthralled. The percussionist, Lalit, kept the party grooving with the DJ jamming live. A live gola counter and the kulfi counter were a hit amongst many. The concluding act was the Wishing Balloon, where all guests made a wish for us (the couple) and hundreds of balloons were released into the dusky Udaipur sky.
Our Pheras and Reception were held in the evening, wherein our mandap looked so romantic overlooking Lake Pichola with a full moon right above it. The baraat made an unusual entry via boats. I entered to my self-recorded background score of my wedding vows that I narrated for Nikhil. It was a musical pheras, which was explained by the wedding troupe from Jaipur.
The decor was all-white, so as to bring out the class of Jag Mandir. We entered under a cold pyro tunnel, which was created by our family and friends. The décor consisted of high centrepieces, candles and twinkling fairy lights. Indian jazz band Maddy Sharma and Jojo performed an aquatic set of music while all the guests came on stage to bless us.
While choosing the place we wanted our guests to get a different feel at the wedding, yet feel a strong connect to our roots. Thus, we selected Udaipur as our wedding destination because of the Indian royalty that city brings out. The lakes and palaces are breathtaking and what better place to tie the knot than Jag Mandir, which is right in the middle of Lake Pichola. The hotel where we were put up was Radisson Blu, which was very conveniently located and was thus the perfect choice.
We did consider Leela Palace as well, but it was not available on the dates we needed.
