Nelae & Nina's Wedding in Kerala, India
A Beach Mehndi with a Psychedelic theme, a Na-Real Award Sangeet Night, a Sadya Lunch (traditional Kerala lunch) along with a Carnival Baraat – Neale and Nina’s wedding at The Leela Palace in Kovalam was a unique mix of traditional and funky!
How they met:
Nina and Neale are both from Los Angeles, and completed their graduation from the University of Southern California. They were involved in a dancing show and became friends during practice sessions and, soon enough, love happened. While Neale is associated with Annapurna pictures, Nina works with an import organization and they are both made for each other.
Bride’s Mehndi outfit was by Sabyasachi and her wedding lehenga was from JADE by Monica and Karishma.
Schedule of events and outfits worn on each function:
18th : Swagatham Pool Party (Theme – Kerala)
An entourage of elephants, Kerala folk street dance performances, and the traditional Shingalimelam band was present to welcome all the guests. The celebrations began the moment the guests arrived and hence they had a welcome Kerala pool party. The parents of the bride and groom were dressed in Mundu and Kasavu sarees and were seen extending their warm welcome to each and every guest. The party continued at the poolside with welcome lunch and music.
18th : Sufi Moon (Theme – White Trance)
This was the best event, as it was broken up into two parties. It commenced with outdoor Sufi in the woods, with a welcome by artists wearing white turbans and surma. White drapes were seen hanging along the trees with blue lights with a few lounge set-ups and hookahs creating the ambience. The dress code was white. We had Sufi act dancers, Jyoti from Goa (the crystal show), an interesting hang-drum and kemencha artist. A Sufi tanoura dancer artist relayed a great story about the bond between the universe and Sufism. While the couple escorted the guests indoors, a band named Attetham from Banglore and Fakira Khan Group from Jodhpur played various classical instruments with a twist and jammed with the DJ.
19th : Beach Mehendi (Psychedelic Theme)
Ever heard of a Psychedelic Beach Mehndi? The beauty about this wedding was that we had a free hand to do things out of the norm. Henna, foot massages, plenty of water sports activities and a huge life-size beach volleyball kept the guests entertained. A local band played various English and Hindi numbers, followed by the DJ, who kicked in some psychedelic music. Various live stations of food, coconut and a gola counter were also installed.
19th : Na-Real Award Night (Red Carpet Theme) & Sangeet
The most hilarious part about this wedding was this event. We had some fun and quirky awards given out to family and friends. It was also a Sangeet night, so it was all about bling and glamour. With a Red Carpet theme, there were a number of awards, with paparazzi and interviews at the entrance. We had Micha and Ruben, a saxophonist and a guitarist all the way from Barcelona, perform with their LED instruments.
20th : Sadya Lunch – The traditional Kerala lunch
Along with the welcome hampers which were placed in every guest’s room, a Kasavu sari and a Mundu were also placed for the Kerala Lunch. The parents of the bride and groom extended their warmth by serving everyone.
20th: The Carnival Baraat (last walk as singles)
A vintage car, a Nashik dhol band with carnival girls and various fun props given out to all the baraatis, made for an outstanding baraat, which ended with a confetti blast.
20th: Wedding by the ocean (Rustic Theme)
It was a traditional Sindhi wedding, with a rustic décor. Since the bride and groom live in US, they had a very simple and rustic décor taste. The groomsmen and bridesmaids walked down the aisle to escort the beautiful bride towards the mandap. As soon as the wedding got over, there was a firework show from the ocean.
20th : The Grand Ball (Classy Theme)
This event was full of speeches, toast, the first dance, cake and champagne and an instrumental band – all that goes in a traditional white Reception.
