Jason & Anjali's Wedding in Dubai, UAE
A music/video director falls in love with a foreign exchange derivatives trader, and a wedding celebration ensues. Jason and Anjali’s dream wedding turned into reality in Dubai.
Jason and I wanted to keep a long duration between our Engagement and Wedding, so that we could plan the wedding of our dreams. We got engaged in London over Summer 2013, and decided a year and a half would be good enough for us to plan everything, considering our hectic career and travel plans.
We were lucky to find amazing wedding planners in Dubai that executed our dreams into reality. Every girl grows up planning her perfect dream wedding (sometimes even before the prince of her life arrives, haha!). Likewise, I’ve known for a while what I wanted for the decor, themes, seating arrangements, entertainment per event, etc. So finding a wedding planner that understands you and your needs was very essential.
We pretty much completed our to-do list 6 months in advance, however trends keep changing daily in the wedding industry and like every bride, getting excited and adding a new feature to the wedding has been tricky, exciting and mind boggling at the same time.
Traveling to India with an intention to shop for all my Indian events for my wedding was a bit nerve wrecking initially, considering I survive in western trends and styles. But I was taken by surprise as to how easy and convenient certain high end and freelance designers make wedding shopping a pleasure, rather than turn a bride into a bridezilla.
Few designers and stores I visited:
Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla
Schedule of events and outfits worn on each function:
Welcome Dinner: Theme was ‘Viva La Fiesta’ and I wore Fouad Sarkis
Pool Party: ‘Ocean of Love’ was the theme, for which I shopped from Pernia’s Pop Up
Sangeet: The theme was ‘Mughal Mystique’ and who better to dress me up than Manish Malhotra!?
Wedding: With the theme of ‘Rhythm of the Dhol’, Abu Jani’s outfit matched perfectly!
Reception: Got my outfit from Pernia’s Pop Up for ‘The Greek Decadence’ themed Reception
We had our 3 day wedding celebration over Christmas December 2014 in the heart of Dubai, at the Intercontinental Hotel Dubai Festival City. Jason and I couldn’t think of a destination more apt and glamorous than the UAE, which is pretty much the hub of the world making it easy for our friends and family to commute to.
Performers and performances:
Welcome Dinner: Spanish Flamenco dancers
Pool Party : Saxophonist
Few words on the photographer, videographer, hair/make-up artist, bartenders and DJ:
The Red Velvet Events Dubai is run by two creative and hardworking entrepreneurs namely, Harsha Khubchandani and Jharna Kalwani. They did an amazing job!
We were advised to choose a few India-based photographers for our wedding, since they pretty much do a lot of Sindhi weddings across the world. However, after all the research we did, we wanted something different just like our personalities. Hence, we decided to go for two professional photographers for our wedding, namely Pooja Studio from Dubai and Naeem Seirafi from Los Angeles.
Like every NRI Sindhi Family, there’s always a go-to jeweler that the entire family purchases from. I’ve been purchasing all my jewelry from Malkish Jewels in Mumbai. Shopping with Mr.Ashik Balani (the owner) has been an absolute pleasure. When buying jewelry, the client’s style, taste and trust is very important and Malkish Jewels is always up to the mark with current trends and never disappoints.
