Guest Post: Wedding Trends to Look Out for in 2016

There used to be a time when weddings were seasonal – you would hear it come up, “It’s wedding season!” However, we now see that the whole concept is diminishing and instead, the entire year is filled with wedding galore. With every passing year, we also see the trends change – from the clothes and styles, to destinations, décor and even invitations. For 2016, it looks like it’s going to be a year that is moving towards simple and stylish.

The colours of the season are leaning towards metallic palettes and jewel tones. With décor going down the minimalistic route, we will see a lot more attention paid to the smaller details with larger elements taking a more simplistic avenue, i.e. look out for elaborate table settings upon a simple gold table cloth.

Flowers and floral designs at a wedding will never go out of fashion – there is nothing more beautiful or romantic than floral centerpieces and mandaps. However, we are seeing couples ask for lucky plants to be added to their floral choices. So mix those traditional flowers – marigolds, roses and petals with ferns and bamboo plants for a real effect.

WEDLOCKS LIKES: We are loving the non-floral centerpieces this year – they’re big and bold!

The idea of a cake that doesn’t tower over you and is actually fully edible is one that really came into fruition last year, but it does seem to continue into 2016. Design-wise, cakes are simple – no statues at the top – with florally piped roses and even edible ribbon. Basically, the entire cake should be edible…every single bit.

WEDLOCKS LIKES: Naked cakes – no fuss, simply adorned with simple frosting. These are the new rage!

We live in a world where everything is about branding and your wedding is no exception. While the new rage is monograms and customized hashtags, the latest bit to add is to decide on the font, colour and cocktail of your wedding. These need to be prominent throughout the wedding so choose wisely!

WEDLOCKS LIKES: Multiple fonts on your cards – it’s fun, fresh and adds personality!

Recently, Manish Malhotra said in an interview, “…not a single client has walked in to ask for an outfit that an actress wore in a film.” His advice is the same as ours: create your own style – don’t look for trends that are “in fashion”. The best brides are those who stand out for being comfortable and elegant in what they wear at every function.

WEDLOCKS LIKES: Brides who can dance in their outfits – nothing worse than a bride who can’t move those hips!
