While famous people are sharing celebrity snapchats of their expensive wedding dresses and discussing how much their glamorous weddings are going to cost, us common folk are right in the midst of the proposal season. And if you thought there was no such thing as a ‘proposal season’, you were wrong.
Statistically, the time between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day is when about 40% of couples get engaged, believe it or not. So, in that light, why don’t we take a look at the top three wedding trends that are going to leave their mark on 2017 as well as on many more years to come?

1. Metallic Dresses and Breezy Silhouettes
If you’ve ever watched Fashion Week in two different years, you’ve noticed that clothing trends change quite drastically from season to season. The same applies to wedding trends – or in this case – wedding dresses.

So far, weddings in 2017 have seen a drop in classic white princess dresses. Instead, the new trend comes in the form of shiny metallic gowns that have just enough sparkle to them. You read that right: shimmering dresses are a thing now, seeing that they give off a bold and sophisticated look to both the bride and the wedding as a whole.
As far as summer weddings go, a lightweight dress is what you need. If you want to look fabulous and fresh on your summer/tropical wedding, make sure you pick out a flowy gown with just a touch of lace on the bodice to achieve that elegant twist without getting encumbered by your dress.
2. The ‘80s Are Back… Sort of
While wedding dresses move towards the future, bridal bouquets are going for the ‘blast from the past’ effect. To be more precise, the current bouquet trend is looking a lot like the one you could see in the ‘80s.

If we’re being completely honest, the cascading bouquets of today aren’t exactly as dramatic as they were three decades ago, but they’re certainly bringing a lot of greenery and dangling flowers to the table. It’s all about that natural chic look, really.
3. Entertained Guests Are Happy Guests
The bride and the groom are at the very center of the wedding – this goes without saying. However, the newest trend also puts the guests into the equation, making 2017 one of the most fun years as far as weddings go!

Since you’re already mixing two sets of friends and families, you might as well come up with a way for them to break the ice. Currently, the most popular way to do this is to get some personalized Mad Libs and crossword puzzles about the happy couple which all of your guests can participate in. And if you’re having an outdoor wedding, it’s an even better chance to incorporate games into your wedding schedule – activities like horseshoes, corn hole and croquet are big hits in this department.
Finally, if you want to really go the distance, you can always hire a gospel choir instead of a DJ, while acrobats and even contortionists are also viable options for guest entertainment.
