INTERVIEW: Design Tuk TukWedding Stationery Designer
Adding a creative touch to festive stationery is what Design Tuk Tuk, a Dubai-based brand, specializes in. Here's an exclusive interview with the designer and founder, Kanika Bhatia.
When did you launch your business and what is your background?
We started DTT in 2014. I have studied graphic design and creative advertising and have worked for various design agencies in Dubai.
What products/ services do you offer and who is it aimed at? Can customers request for bespoke designs?
DTT specializes in adding a creative touch to festive stationery that we have been using for years. We create bespoke designs for weddings, events, restaurants that include invitation/stationery design, accessories/ favors/ gifts, photo booth props and signage. We also have a range of ready-to-use products that are available for those short on time.
Where do you get your inspiration from and what do you enjoy most about your job?
Research plays a key role in our designs. We see, hear, observe trends, textiles (some of them being my mother’s old saris), museums, art throughout history. Inspiration is all around you, it’s just a matter of what you do with it. Creating products and designs for individuals is extremely different to creating it for corporates. It’s more personal, you get to meet new people, they invite you into their lives to get to know them better and then convert that into something magical.
What makes DTT different from other wedding stationery suppliers?
Unlike other designers, we do not keep ready designs. We first try to understand the couple and conceptualize the card around their personalities and story. We won’t take a ready template, add a logo to it and give it to anyone. Our team consists of trained graphic designers and we create everything in-house as well.
Please elaborate on the pricing structure, areas you cater to and any packages you offer.
We cater to clients who are looking for high quality of design so packages can vary, depending on the design and stationery requirement. If someone purchases their wedding cards from us, their stationery for the wedding itself usually comes at a better price as we follow the same theme throughout.
How far in advance would you advise a couple to start sourcing their wedding invitations?
Minimum 3-4 months prior to the wedding.
