Bhargav and Nidhi's wedding at JW Marriott in Dubai is the perfect example of dreams coming true - of teenage love turning into a fairytale wedding!

How we met:

We met in 2009 through mutual friends from school and Bhargav started to like me from then itself. It started off as an infatuation, but one fine day he decided to ask me out on a date. We went for a movie, after which he proposed to me and I said ‘Yes’. I was 15 years old then and didn’t even know what love meant!  It was my very first relationship and gradually, within a year, we realized that something had clicked between us and we were just meant to be with each other. And so the journey began and eventually turned into a beautiful fairy tale wedding, where we are now sharing a special bond as husband and wife.

Wedding Planning:

The process of wedding planning can never be smooth! There are a million ideas and not all can be implemented, but at the end of it all, it was definitely worth it. I was in charge of most of the things, from venue to décor and theme, etc., and took some help from my dad as well. He assured me that it will be the best day of my life and he made sure that everything went smoothly, just the way I wanted. I took inspiration mainly from wedding blogs and Pinterest, as I only had a vague idea of the concepts behind each function. Our first event was a Mehndi/ DJ Party, which was a casual evening organized for my close family and friends to dance and go crazy on the music of RJ/DJ Asef.

The next function was the Sangeet, themed around a Rock & Sufi night, wherein we invited a Rock Sufi band from New Delhi called ShivamNswar. I happened to meet them randomly at a bar in Connaught Place and decided to book them for my wedding as soon as I heard their amazing music! As expected, they were mesmerizing and rocked the stage.

Feelings on the Big Day:

The wedding day for a bride is probably a day where there are million things going on in her head. I was scared, nervous, sad and happy, all at the same time. When I left home that morning, my heart was pounding and feet were shivering with the thought that I am leaving my house forever. But it also turned out to be the best feeling when I realized that it was the day I was going to start a new life with the person I love.

Wedding Shopping:

Shopping – it just never ends, does it!? Most of my shopping was done from Mumbai and a little bit from Delhi and Ahmedabad.

Mumbai – Aza, Kalki Fashions, Roopkala, Chamee & Palak

Delhi – Rajouri Garden

Schedule of Events and Outfits worn on each function:

Mehendi – I wore a Green Crop Top with a Tail and Floral Skirt to match the floral theme, and it was designed by Kinjal Shlpkar from Ahmedabad

Sangeet – I opted for a Blue and Pink Lehenga from Chameee & Palak

Wedding – My wedding lehenga was from Kalki Fashions, in a White and Red combination (an obvious choice for a Gujarati bride)

Reception – I wore a Peach Shimmer Jacket with a Skirt from Shakuntlam, Rajouri Garden Delhi as it was a Indo-Western theme

Wedding Venues:

We were on the hunt for a ballroom with a capacity of 1000 people, so that we could accommodate our 500 guests and have a decent amount of stage space without it being too congested.

JW Marriott in Deira turned out to be perfect choice, what with a huge ballroom and a hydraulic stage, where we made a gala entry for our Reception in a Rolls Royce.

Performers and Performances:

My family performed on a skit with a story line describing how we met, and danced on some funny and romantic songs. My younger brother, Aryan, put on a very emotional act to signify the bond of a brother-sister relationship, which brought tears to everyone’s eyes. The groom’s side danced on some peppy songs like ‘Gallan Goodiyaan’, while his niece’s cute act for her mama on the song ‘Chanda Mama’ entertained all the guests.
