Amit & Naval's Wedding in Bangkok, Thailand
Amit & Naval's Enchanted Forest Themed Sangeet & Gurudwara Wedding in Bangkok was an opulent affair!
How we met:
My partner is pretty old school; a couple of years ago he did not have Facebook or any other social media account. Hence, he asked me out on a date via email and we met up for coffee on a weekend. The date ended with us sharing a liquid nitrogen ice cream while he walked me to the train station. Our common love for dogs, TV shows and Japanese food made us the perfect match!
We did not hire a wedding planner because we had plenty of help from our family and friends. Since I started the wedding planning early, I found it to be quite smooth going forward. I got most of my ideas online from Pinterest, Facebook and YouTube. It did take a good 8 months for us to get things ready for the big week. It wouldn’t have turned out so perfect without the help of my family, who spent days making sure the wedding preps went on smoothly.
Feelings on the Big Day:
The events leading up to the wedding were so much fun that I was both happy and excited on my wedding day. Having all my friends and family come together for my Big Day made me feel immensely loved and blessed. Our wedding was not only about my partner and I coming together, it was also about our families and friends coming together to create an even bigger and inseparable bond. (Side note: I knew I was only going to be half an hour away from my parents so I wasn’t feeling sad)!
Our families traveled to Delhi for our wedding shopping. It took us around 2 weeks to complete everything from our shopping list. It included days of walking around bazaars and shopping streets, trying on outfits and going through what seemed like a thousand sets of jewelry.
Schedule of events and outfits worn on each function:
My Sangeet outfit was a beautiful navy blue gown by Manish Malhotra. Leenu Singh Couture designed my Wedding lehenga, and Rabani and Rakha did my Doli outfit. I got my white Reception gown from Varun Bahl.
The overall color theme for the wedding was mostly peach with a hint of pastel colors. The Sangeet night at Marriott had an enchanted forest theme, full of fairy lights, tall green trees, wild flowers and waterfalls.
We needed a large banquet hall since we were inviting a large number of guests. We also needed the hotel to be flexible in terms of decorations, food, pricing and it should have had experience in hosting Indian weddings. Marriott Marquis was a great location as it was easily accessible; they were extremely helpful as well, and made the party planning a stress-free and enjoyable experience.
Performers and Performances:
There were performances by both the families. Our parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, brother and sister-in-laws, and friends all performed for us on stage by dancing as well as forming a band to sing for us on the Reception night.
Few words on the photographer, videographer, hair/make-up artist, bartenders and DJ:
Our photographer and videographer were excellent with our pre-wedding shoot as well as the entire wedding. They were punctual, friendly, and very easy to work with. Overall, we loved all the pictures and music videos they created for us. I had a different make-up artist for every function, and each of them gave me different looks throughout the wedding.
Advice for to-be-weds:
Even a small gesture of love given to your partner everyday can have a huge impact on your marriage. Lean on each other’s strengths, forgive each other’s weaknesses and above all, always respect each other. Treat your spouse’s family the way you would want them to treat your own family.
