Alton & Rowena's Wedding in Mangalore, India
Alton and Rowena met through a common acquaintance AND were a two-way match on a matrimonial site – talk about fate bringing two people together! They celebrated their union at their hometown Mangalore in a traditional way.
How we met:
Alton and I were introduced to each other through a common acquaintance, and also unknowingly happened to be a two-way match on a matrimonial site. Once we began texting each other, we hit it off right away, and fell in love within a few days. After 16 months of courtship, we tied the knot at our hometown, Mangalore, India in the presence of family, friends and loved ones.
Wedding Planning and Decor:
Our wedding planning process was half stressful and half smooth – the main reason being Alton and I were in the UAE doing our respective jobs, whereas our wedding was to happen in our hometown, so contacting various vendors for the wedding was a stressful task. But thanks to our family members back in India, most of the things were taken care of.
Feelings on the Big Day:
The wedding day was mostly filled with mixed feelings; at some point, I felt very stressed out because there were some minor mishaps like forgetting the selfie booth props, etc; whereas at other points in time, I felt absolutely blissful, like during the vows, where we professed our lifelong commitment to each other; I felt quite emotional at other times, like the time where I had to say goodbye to my family members and loved ones during the “giving away” of the bride.
The wedding shopping was the best – not stressful at all! Most of the shopping was done by me and Alton, some by my family back home and some of it was done by all of us together when we visited India occasionally during our courtship.
Schedule of events and outfits worn on each function:
The wedding theme was assorted pinks – primarily fuschia. I wore a white gown for the nuptials and a red saree (also known as “sado”) during the Reception.
We didn’t have any particular requirements, except that it should be a lawn venue. We found the Monis Garden which was available for our wedding day; however, we booked it almost a year in advance.
Few words on the wedding planner, photographer, videographer, hair/make-up artist, bartenders and DJ:
All our vendors were exceptionally great.
Advice for to-be-weds:
Try and rehearse some parts of the wedding if possible; this may avoid a lot of last moment unforeseen goof-ups during the wedding day.
